SOCA Premier Travel Program

The mission of the Premier travel program is to provide advanced development through a competitive game and team training environment. Player development takes place through elevated commitment and competition.

Premier teams participate at the highest level of travel competition within the Skyline Club Soccer League.  SOCA Premier teams represent the Charlottesville and Albemarle community within the league and attend various tournament and invitational events.  Premier teams are the pinnacle of SOCA youth programming and prepare players to compete not only regionally but also for further levels of the game of soccer.  Player participation requires commitment, dedication, and significant ability.

The Charlottesville Travel program is proudly sponsored by acac Fitness and Wellness Centers.

  • Tryouts

Premier teams are formed in the U11-U19 age groups for both boys and girls.  In the U11 and U12 age groups Apprentice teams are formed as well to participate in the Club Champions League.  SOCA Premier teams compete in the Skyline Club Soccer League Premier Division.

Selection is through the tryout process only.  All players must tryout annually and are encouraged to tryout for the top level travel team offered in their age group.

There are three tryouts per year: Annual/Open, Late, and Mid-Year Tryouts. Team availability is only guaranteed at the Annual/Open Tryouts. All interested candidates for the Late or Mid-year tryouts should contact the SOCA office prior to attending, to verify team placement availability.

Team creation is based upon the quantity and quality of player candidates.  Player selection and placement is based upon ability.  Teams are formed at the discretion of the SOCA Coaching Director and Technical Staff.

For more information please see our tryout page.

  • Team Commitment

Premier teams are selected in the late spring (June) and begin training in late summer (August 10 2020). Players commit to participate for the entire year.

There are no refunds after the registration deadline in June. Players  commit to participating for the full year at the time of registration. Exceptions are only made for medical reasons or family relocation.

The Skyline Club Soccer League serves the west-central portion of Virginia.  Premier teams will typically travel to Blacksburg, Roanoke, Augusta, Harrisonburg and  Martinsville.

  • Leagues & Tournaments

Premier teams participate in the highest level of play in the Skyline Club Soccer League.

Note: The SOCA travel program will feature U11 and U12 Apprentice teams that will participate in the Club Champions League (CCL).

Skyline league play consists of 8-10 matches per season. Additional friendly matches and scrimmages may be arranged seasonally by the SOCA staff.   Premier teams will compete in two tournaments per season, typically one prior and one following the fall and spring season.

U16-19 teams will only compete in the fall Skyline season and will be eligible for spring High School play.  U15 teams commit to a fall season.  U15 spring play will be dependent upon player interest and the availability of league competition.

U12 and older Premier teams will compete in the USYS Virginia Presidents Cup.  This state wide competition takes place on select Saturdays during the season and culminates in a championship weekend for semifinalists at the VYSA Virginia Training Center in Fredericksburg.
(U15 and older competition takes place in the fall season, U12-U14 matches will take place in the Spring season)

  • Training Sessions

At the U15-U19 age groups, there is an emphasis on the technical, tactical, physical and psychological components of the game. Training is focused on preparing players for possible collegiate opportunities but more immediately on preparing for successful high school participation.
