Frostbite Tournament Wraps-up Fall Rec Season

SOCA Recreation teams put the finishing touches on the fall 2017 season over the December 2-3 weekend by competing in the annual Frostbite Tournament.  The Frostbite is the traditional season-ending event for U10-U19 Recreation teams from both Charlottesville and Augusta regions.  This year 42 teams entered the festive fall finale, with six squads making the short trek from the Augusta region.  Champions were crowned in nine divisions.

In exciting round robin format, one of the Augusta contingent, U10 Boys AS21 Orange, claimed the U10 Boys Red division title.

The 2017 edition featured games held at the Charlottesville High School stadium, a prime location for quality soccer.  Saturday late day matches were played on the turf surface under the floodlights, giving the U15 players a unique Rec program experience.  The majority of matches were hosted at SOCA’s headquarters South Fork Soccer Park.

Saturday morning action kicked-off in frosty conditions, living up to the tournament name.  By the time of the Sunday afternoon finals, the weather cooperated to provide unseasonable balmy sunshine, putting a smile on the faces of all in attendance.

In all, over 500 players and families enjoyed friendly competition in the exciting tournament setting, wrapping up a successful fall season while looking ahead to more great fun in future seasons.
