SOCA Sweeps Trio of State Cup Matches at South Fork

There is nothing like the comforts of home.  On Saturday, October 5, three SOCA Elite teams swept their VYSA State Cup matches at South Fork Soccer Park and booked passage to the semi-final round of the state championship competition.

The U16 Boys, U16 Girls and U17 Girls all won their quarter-final game, advancing to the penultimate stage, where they will join the SOCA U15 Girls, U18 Girls and U18 Boys.

Opening proceedings in the 10:00 am match, the U17 Girls launched the club trifecta with a 5-0 thrashing of Loudoun.  Following in the 12:00 noon game were the U16 Boys who claimed a 4-2 win over SYA Cardinals.  Closing the days’ home based State Cup effort were the U16 Girls who posted a 3-0 shutout win over the SYC Pride.

SOCA has placed six teams into the State Cup semi-finals, an indication of the breadth and depth of quality in the club.  No club in the state has placed more teams in the semi-final round this season.  Both the current SOCA U16 (2004) and U17 (2003) Girls Elite teams are defending champions and will be seeking to win back-to-back Cup titles for the first time.

All semi-finals are scheduled for October 26 at the Virginia Soccer Training Center, in Spotsylvania.  The final championship matches are scheduled for November 3.
