SOCA Advances Two More Teams in State Cup

On Saturday, April 22 two SOCA Elite teams advanced in the VYSA State Cup competition with resounding wins over visiting squads from opposite corners of the state.

Despite threatening weather and some light rain, the matches proceeded in the friendly home environs of South Fork Soccer Park, where the hosts handed out big defeats.  The first Cup match of the day kicked off at noon, with the U14 Girls Elite team thrashing visiting Stafford Revolution 7-0.  The squad, led by Coach Jason Moore, will next face seventh seed Beach FC on the road in the round of 16.

In the second match, which began under soggier conditions at 2:00 pm, the U13 Boys Elite made quick work of New River United, visiting  from southwest Virginia, by posting a 6-1 win, their second Cup win this season.  The boys advanced to the quarterfinal round where they will play familiar CCL foe Loudoun, the third seed in the age group.

Five of SOCA’s six eligible teams remain in the single elimination knock-out Cup competition.  Both the U12 Boys Apprentice (#4 seed) and U13 Girls Elite (#5 seed) have yet to play, as their high seeding allowed them to avoid the first round of play. The U14 Boys Elite (#3 seed) also remain in the state championship event, where their next opponent will be the VYS Spartans, in an as yet unscheduled home match.

Schedules for the next round of play are expected to be posted by Monday, April 24.
