The SOCA boys Classic squads from both Charlottesville and Augusta regions were joined by three Augusta Premier teams to form a sizable invasion party at the Capital Fall Classic in Richmond this past weekend. Sixteen SOCA teams attended the nearby event, posting an over-all winning record against teams from around the mid-Atlantic region.
Two Charlottesville Classic teams, the U14 Boys Classic White and the U13 Boys Classic teams came away with first place medals, and U11 Boys Classic White took the silver in their bracket.
The U13’s (lead by Coach Mike Franco) and the U14’s (Coach James Schoenster) posted perfect 4-0-0 records in the event. The U13’s capped their weekend with an emphatic 4-1 win in the championship match over Culpeper Comets, while the U14’s faced a closer battle in their 2-1 final victory over Beach FC.
The U11 White team was unbeaten and untied going into their final, before being outpaced by a Culpeper squad.
The tournament will mark the end of the fall campaign for most teams, with only a small number of league make-up matches remaining on the schedule.
This coming weekend the SOCA girls Classic teams will head to Richmond for their turn in the season closing event. SOCA boys and girls Premier level teams will compete in the CCL Shootout during the same time, just a bit further down the road in the Williamsburg area.
