Boys Sweep in State Cup Openers

SOCA made a clean sweep of first round State Cup play on Saturday, April 9 as three boys’ teams were in action in the state championship competition.  The schedule had SOCA’s U12 Apprentice and U13 Elite teams playing at South Fork Soccer Park and the U14 Elite squad on the road in McLean.  All three posted wins in their first match of Cup play against northern Virginia opponents.

SOCA’s U12 Apprentice squad opened the day with a 5-1 win over Team America FC in the local’s first State Cup experience.  The youngsters jumped to a 3-0 half-time lead and comfortably closed out the match, conceding only on a nearly-saved penalty kick.  The victory was a comprehensive performance, with the squad demonstrating attacking prowess, midfield control and stability at the back.

Coach Matt Rowe was pleased with the group’s performance noting that the group is solid throughout with standout play coming at various times from different players.  The U12’s will next face CYA on the road.

In the late game at South Fork Soccer Park the U13 Boys Elite, under the careful guidance of Coach Jason Fargo, earned a solid 2-0 win over Northern Virginia SC.  SOCA will next face BFC Barca in an away match.

The SOCA U14 Boys Elite were on the road against McLean, where they pasted a 6-1 drubbing on the home side.  Coach Carl Gray, a veteran of State Cup campaigns, kept the squad on track throughout.  Next up are #6 seed Loudoun and the match will also be an away game for the SOCA squad.
