Team AW61 Red Rainbows Frostbite Champions!

The Fall Recreations season came to an exciting close over the weekend of December 5, 6 as thirty two SOCA teams showcased their skills and competed for local bragging rights in seven divisions in the traditional season ending event.

The weather cooperated fully with frosty morning hours giving way to balmy sunshine and mild temperatures on both days of competition, providing a perfect setting for squads from both Augusta and Charlottesville regions to enjoy the friendly tournament setting.  Despite the chilly start, the action hot, fast and exciting on every field.

Don Dolinger, Recreation Coordinator for Charlottesville, served as tournament director and was pleased with the event throughout.  “The kids were great, and we had a terrific group of coaches who lead their teams with enthusiasm and good sporting behavior.  It was a great weekend of soccer for our players and families.”

South Fork Soccer Park hosted most of the action, with three U-10 divisions and three U-12 divisions playing at the club’s elite facility.  The U-18 Co-ed division played their matches on the turf at WAHS, which proved to be a good meeting ground of three Augusta squads and four from Charlottesville.  In the U-18 division, all three Augusta sides made it to the semi-final round, with team AW61 (Red) claiming the top prize.  The lone Augusta representative at South Fork Soccer Park, the U-10 girls ALD21 (Purple), were also crowned champions after facing stiff competition throughout the weekend.

Congratulations to all division winners and thanks to all participants.
