Charlottesville Classic

Mission

The mission of the Classic travel program is to provide a training and game developmental setting preparing players for advancement to SOCA-Premier and Elite Travel programs. Player development takes place through elevated commitment and competition.

Classic teams participate in the Skyline Club Soccer League. SOCA-Charlottesville Classic teams are based in the Charlottesville and Albemarle region and not only offer a path to advancement to the SOCA-Elite and Premier programs but also serves travel players with a more localized travel program offering.

The Charlottesville Travel program is proudly sponsored by Sentara Martha Jefferson Sports Medicine.

  • Tryouts

    Players will be placed by 11-U19 age groups, boys and girls teams. The number of teams may vary per age group where player quantity and ability, and coaching resources dictate.

    The selection for Classic is through tryout process only. All players must tryout for top level of travel within their age group. Team creation is based upon the quantity and quality of player candidates.  Player selection and placement is based upon ability.

    There are three tryouts per year: Annual/Open, Late, and Mid-Year Tryouts. Team availability is only guaranteed at the Annual/Open Tryouts. All interested candidates for the Late or Mid-year tryouts should contact the SOCA office prior to attending, to verify team placement availability. Please contact Jason.Moore@SOCAspot.org with inquiries.

    Teams are formed at the discretion of SOCA’s Director of Coaching and Classic Program Coordinator.

  • Team Commitment

    Classic teams are selected in the late spring (June) and begin training in late summer (first or second week of August). Players commit to participate for the entire year.  U15-U18 teams will participate in the fall season only.

    There are no refunds after the registration deadline in June. Players  commit to participating for the full year at the time of registration. Exceptions are only made for medical reasons or family relocation.

    The Skyline Club Soccer League serves the west-central  portion of Virginia.  Classic divisions within the league are formed from clubs which are typically located within a one hour travel distance from  Charlottesville.

  • Leagues & Tournaments

    Skyline league play consists of 8-10 matches per season. Additional friendly matches and scrimmages may be arranged seasonally by the SOCA Charlottesville Classic Coordinator.  Classic teams will compete in two tournaments per season, typically one prior and one following the fall and spring seasons.

    U15-19 teams will only compete in the Fall Skyline season and will be eligible for spring High School play.

  • Training Sessions

    Training sessions are twice per week, plus highly recommend (but optional) Wednesday technical sessions for U11-U14.

    Players commit to participate for the entire year at U11-U14. Fall only for U15-U19.

    U15-U19; Emphasis on the technical, tactical, physical and psychological components of the game preparing players for advancement and preparing for a successful high school season.

    U11-U14; Heavy emphasis on the technical development (skills/fundamentals) of each player.

    2017-18 Fees

    U11-14 Classic Teams – $1,120.  2 payments ($615 due June 6, 2017 & $505 due October 1, 2017)

    U15-U18 Classic Teams – $621 due June 6, 2017.
