Annual Tryouts

Annual Tryouts

Players are expected to pre-register for Annual Tryouts via their online SOCA account. Please contact Sunny.Herold@SOCAspot.org for registration assistance.

SOCA annual tryouts are conducted each spring (April and May) for the following fall and spring Travel and Challenge teams. ***2020 Tryout Update – SOCA Tryouts have been postponed to new dates in July.  Please see the Annual Tryout Schedule page for up-to-date information.  Online Tryout Registrations are available in personal accounts.  Registering for tryouts will allow interested candidates to be informed directly as new information becomes available.

SOCA Annual tryouts are open to any interested player of the appropriate age and gender. Performance, attendance and attitude from previous soccer seasons will be considered. When possible, different select programs within the same age group will tryout at the same time and facility to help facilitate the team placement process (Example: U12 Boys Travel & U12 Boys Challenge will tryout simultaneously).

As a sister club with the Skyline Elite Soccer Club, motivated and talented travel players are also offered the opportunity to attend tryouts for teams at this elevated level of play.  Participation with these teams includes greater time commitment as well as expenses, all players should consider these factors before deciding to tryout.  Skyline Elite teams are formed at U13 through U19 boys and girls, online registration for these tryouts is done separately through family accounts.  Skyline Elite tryouts are held simultaneously to SOCA tryouts in the same age group.  Interested players are considered for these teams in lieu of placement with SOCA Premier travel teams.  For more information on this opportunity please follow the link below.

Follow the link below for the Annual SOCA Tryout Schedule.  Please note that selected age groups have TWO Tryout dates. All players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryouts! To be considered for a team a candidate must attend at least one tryout.

  • Tryout Announcements

Annual Tryout selections/announcements will be posted via your family’s SOCA account. Tryout results will not be emailed directly to each family. Email notifications will prompt you to review your selection and placement in your personal account on the website. On your personal account’s home page, selection will be shown by a specific team placement listed next to the player’s name at the top of the “Available Programs” list or the delineation “Not Selected” will appear. Your soccer account can only be viewed by utilizing your private username and password.

If selected for a program you must register for that program in order to accept your position.  Please submit payment through your online account to ensure your position on the team. Players seeking financial assistance need to contact the SOCA office, establish a plan and make an initial payment by the registration deadline to be considered registered in good standing for the fall season.

Those players that do not register for their selected team by the registration deadline are in danger of forfeiting their position on the team.  Replacement or alternate selections may be contacted to fill your position at that time.

  • Team Formation

It is the intent of SOCA to form one Premier travel team in each of the eligible age groups (U11-U19) for boys and girls.  Additional Classic travel teams will be determined by numbers of interested candidates in particular age groups.  The Challenge program seeks to form teams in the U10, U12, and U15 age groups for boys and girls.  The number of these teams will be determined by the number of qualified candidates.  Players who are not selected are encouraged to continue participating in the Recreational program for their age group.

The U11 and U12 divisions will also form Apprentice teams that will compete in the CCL league along with Skyline Elite SC teams.  Teams will be formed for both boys and girls.

***Note – Coaches will likely not be assigned to all fall teams at the time of tryouts. Some coaches are assigned later in the spring/summer. In limited cases teams will be announced without a coach at the conclusion of tryout and SOCA will utilize the summer to find the most qualified and suitable coach prior to the start of the season in August.

Due to the prevailing public health concerns, tryouts in the summer of 2020 will operate differently than past years.  All current select program players (Travel and Challenge) have been offered the chance to renew for the next year of play.

If a player is interested in returning to the same team or level of play from the past year, they need only complete this renewal and should NOT attend tryouts.

If a player is interested in advancing levels within SOCA’s programming (or joining a Skyline Elite team) they may complete the renewal to ensure their position in their current program, and then attend the tryouts in hopes of being selected for a higher level of team.  All renewal fees will be transferable to higher level programs.

All prospective Travel players in the U11 age group (birth year 2010) should attend both tryouts to help facilitate the proper formation of new team rosters for the next year of play.

Additionally, all U18/19 (2002, 2003) age group players should attend the tryout regardless of renewal status.  New team rosters will need to be formed in this combined age group.
